Lack of spectators nothing to do with lack of interest

I have to respond to the “Looming white elephant” letter to the editor (Oct. 22). I was quite upset when I read the newspaper on Oct. 17 to see that the Canadian 2009 Fall World Cup Trials were taking place at the oval when we had not seen or heard any advertising for it at all.
The failure was not in people to show up, the failure lies with those who were responsible to get the message out to the community that this exciting event was taking place because of that we missed a fantastic opportunity to see world class athletes in our own city, a disappointment compounded by the fact that we were not successful in getting tickets for any of the Olympic events to be held there.
The lack of spectators in my mind had nothing to do with a lack of interest in this venue or the events held there.
