Don’t let Railway green space be an off-leash area

In response to the article “Dogs to have day in more parks” and the comment by the mayor that residents just like using the Railway green space as an extension of their backyard, I enclose a copy of my e-mail of protest sent to Judie Shebib at the parks department.
I do not back onto the green space, but live adjacent to it. “Many people and children are afraid of dogs and letting them run around in a pedestrian frequented area is a terrible idea.
“Residents are already experiencing dog feces on their property and on pedestrian areas. We have had to fence our front yard so that dogs off leash don’t use it as a bathroom and I have had to clean my toddler’s shoes at least twice a month for the last year from people not cleaning up after their dogs in non off-leash pedestrian areas in West Richmond—including the Railway green space.
“Please do not make this an off-leash area...
“It is a person’s choice to own a dog in an urban area, and if they don’t have space for it, they shouldn’t acquire one.”
