EDITORIAL: Just say no to cosmetic pesticides

The folks at CropLife Canada have responded to Richmond’s bold decision to ban pesticides in Richmond.

In a letter to The Richmond Review, Lorne Hepworth, president of CropLife Canada, which represents the plant sciences industry, blames the decision on “the dubious claims made by the fundraising organizations promoting these bans.”

Dubious claims, fundraising organizations, hmmm. Over here in Richmond, the ban was spearheaded by a mom who didn’t want city crews spraying her kids with pesticides and residents in a couple of stratas who got sick of watching gallons of toxic crap being dumped on their lawns every time a dandelion or shoot of clover appeared.

If you don’t like dandelions, then weed. Coddling moth got your apples? Then put cardboard bands around your trees. The last thing our city needs is more chemicals sprayed everywhere.

Again, good on council for banning the cosmetic use of pesticides.
