Saturday's second annual Chinese-Canadian Telethon/Radiothon raised more than $230,000 for the Richmond Hospital Foundation's emergency room campaign.

In an event months in the planning, callers from as far away as Ontario and Alberta contributed to the fundraising totals.

"We are thrilled with the continuous support of the community and the tremendous encouragement of donors," foundation executive director Lisa Westermark said. "This is our second telethone/radiothon. We are very excited to learn that our donors understand the importance of health, and are willing to share this gift with the community. It is just amazing," Westermark said.

Since 1987, the foundation has raised more than $33 million thanks to the support of donors both large and small. The foundation funds more than 85 per cent of all newly purchased medical equipment at Richmond Hospital.
