Buck and Ear drunks net licence suspension
The Buck and Ear Bar and Grill has been handed a liquor licence suspension and a $5,000 fine by the B.C. Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.
According to Cpl. Jennifer Pound of the Richmond RCMP, police attended various calls related to the Steveston Hotel pub for several months. That led to a joint inspection by the RCMP and liquor licence inspectors.
On March 13, plainclothes police and liquor officials saw drunk patrons and fights inside the pub. Outside the pub, they found patrons urinating in public, leaving with beer bottles and fighting in the street.
According to Richmond RCMP, the pub's suspension begins Friday and lasts until Sept. 15.
Two years ago, RCMP issued a press release concerning a large group of patrons at the Buck and Ear that became unruly.
When officers arrived, 30 to 40 people in various stages of intoxication were on the street. Officers asked the group to get off the street and gave repeated warnings to leave the area. Not everyone listened.
Six men and two women were arrested for being drunk in a public place, breach of the peace and unlawful assembly. Two other unrelated arrests also occurred.
