A large group of fans—some clad in orange and purple basketball jerseys while others looked ready to go nightclubbing—gathered outside a local hotel in anticipation of an NBA superstar coming to Richmond on Thursday afternoon.

Steve Nash, a two-time basketball league MVP and point guard with the Phoenix Suns, was all smiles during the grand opening of the Steve Nash Sports Club on St. Edwards Drive.

And although he didn't sign any autographs, the down-to-Earth Nash did wave to the more than 100 people who came out for the official opening of the state-of-the-art 55,000-square-foot fitness facility.

This is the second club flying Nash's colours, with the first having opened in Vancouver a couple of years ago.

Another is said to be coming to South Surrey's Morgan Crossing neighbourhood.
