Richmond pianist Natalie Lo earned second place in the inaugural Pacific Coast Music Association competition held at Gateway Theatre.

The competition's gala concert, held Friday, Oct. 30, featured competitors ages nine to 17 vying for scholarships and prizes.

Lo, a 16-year-old R.A. McMath Secondary student, tied with North Vancouver's Nicole Linaksita, 16, in the senior category. North Vancouver's Emma Woo, 15, earned first place and a $1,000 scholarship.

In the intermediate category, Vancouver's Walter Yeo, 14, finished behind winner Jeong Min Lee, 13, of Langley, who won a $700 prize.

Langley's Celine Pao, 9, won the junior category—worth a $350 prize—with runner-up prize going to Yul Roh, 11, of Surrey.

The association was founded this year to encourage the enjoyment and appreciation of music by helping to enhance performing skills.
