Volunteer Richmond Volunteer Shopping Program volunteers work tirelessly every week, rain or shine, during snowy days and holidays to provide grocery shopping assistance to Richmond seniors and others with long-term health problems.

This group of 80 volunteers has been serving the Richmond community since 1992 and several individuals have been volunteering for more than 10 years. They phone clients for their shopping orders every week and then shop for their groceries. They also help clients who are able to come to Safeway to do their own shopping.

Last year, they helped an average of over more than clients each month and made 3,400 contacts throughout the year. Thanks to the hard work of these caring volunteers, their clients can have peace of mind knowing that this service is available and can be relied upon. Their weekly contacts also provide companionship to local seniors.

Not only are they helping Richmond seniors and others with long term health problems maintain their independence and remain in their homes as long as possible, but they also are setting a great example to people, young or old, by illustrating that helping others is a rewarding and satisfying experience.
