Charity auction to aid child poverty

The eighth annual Dream Auction benefiting Richmond children in need is set for Saturday, Nov. 28.
A silent auction, live auction, buffet lunch and a chance to win two tickets anywhere Air Canada flies are all part of the event.
Organized by volunteers at Gilmore Park United Church, the auction has raised $250,000 to help Richmond's youngest residents since it began eight years ago.
Event co-chairs Sally Houston and Susan Johnsen hope to reach this year's fundraising goal of $36,000. All money raised goes to the breakfast program in Richmond schools, the Richmond Food Bank and Nova House, a safe house for women and children.
"We encourage families and everyone to come out and be a part of the community helping the community," said volunteer Brenda Jacobsen.
Funds are raised at both a silent and live auction, hosted by Coun. Bill McNulty. Some of this year's items include a River Rock Casino Resort getaway, Vancouver Canucks tickets, golf packages and stays at Pender and Lummi islands.
A pair of airline tickets to anywhere Air Canada flies in North America (including Hawaii and the Caribbean) is the grand prize in a paper airplane contest.
The Dream Auction will take place Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel, 7311 Westminster Hwy. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for children ages six to 12 and free for children under six. Contact Gilmore Park United Church at 604-277-5377 for tickets.
