Mehfil Magazine establishes endowment for Kwantlen journalism students

Mehfil Magazine, an Indo-Canadian lifestyle magazine, has established a $40,000 endowment to provide financial assistance for journalism students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Mehfil Magazine has been reporting on current events in the Indo-Canadian community in the Lower Mainland since 1993.
“We feel it’s important to support good journalism because it plays such an important role not only in our communities but in democracy in general,” said Minto Vig, the magazine’s co-publisher and editor. “This endowment fund will provide scholarships to enhance and encourage journalism students to reach for excellence in our profession.”
Rana Vig, co-publisher, added, “We are the first Indo-Canadian publication in B.C. to establish an endowment of this size to support journalism students. By setting the example, we hope others will follow in providing support to encourage a high level of professionalism in the journalism community. We’re proud to create this endowment at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, which has been a leader when it comes to engaging the communities it serves, including the Indo-Canadian community.”
The Richmond-based Kwantlen journalism program offers students both a four-year Bachelor of Journalism and a two-year diploma. The program has been in existence for more than 25 years and celebrates a high rate of employment for its graduates.
“Our journalism program gives students a firm grasp of the industry’s best practices and core values, preparing them for promising careers in multimedia journalism”, said Robert Adamoski, dean of social sciences. “We are very grateful for Mehfil’s support of our students’ education.”
