Postcards winners announced

Eight great images of Richmond will soon adorn postcards earmarked for addresses around the world after a panel of judges selected from hundreds of entries to the Picture It photo contest organized by the City of Richmond and Tourism Richmond.
City of Richmond spokesperson Ted Townsend said he was pleased with the high calibre of entries, which made it difficult for judges to select the winners in many categories.
Many of the entries, including several that didn’t make the winner’s list, prompted judges to say they’d like to have that photograph on their own walls.
Some of the winning entries required a discerning eye but relatively little effort to capture, while another required a photographer to be persistent until he got just the right angle and lighting.
Townsend said the second phase of the photo contest will soon be launched, in which anyone who wants to be an ambassador for Richmond will be invited to participate.
While the photo contest saw eight locals snag brand new Panasonic digital cameras, worth about $800 each, the new contest has an even grander prize.
Participants will soon be invited to mail out postcards, containing the winning photographs, to friends and family around the world.
The winning prize is a trip to Richmond from anywhere on the globe, as well as local accommodations and highly-coveted Olympic tickets.
Townsend urged locals to continue to read The Richmond Review in the near future for more details about how to enter the contest.
