If there was ever a time to get excited about salmon it's Saturday.

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society is bringing back Salmon Stomp this B.C. Day long weekend.

"It's a community celebration, a way for the cannery to give back to the community for all its support throughout the year," said organizer Karen Lee, the cannery's public programs manager.

The free event appeals to people of all ages, offering musical entertainment, dancing and a foot-stomping good time.

Live music includes performances by T.Nile, Headwater, the Swagmen, M'Girl, Doghouse, Kutapira, the Fraser River Fiddlers and Dave

Adnams.

T.Nile (Tamara Nile) won a recent Canadian Folk Music Award for best new/emerging artist for her banjo-fueled folk rock music, and released her sophomore album Cabin Song EP in June.

"She's garnered quite a lot of attention this year," said Lee. "She's up-and-coming, and so is Headwater."

Headwater is a rock 'n' roll string band whose music is like "listening to the West Coast of Canada in song," according to the group's website.

The annual Salmon Stomp has a few new twists: roving street entertainers and dancing lessons from the Eire Born Irish Dancers from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.

The event will run from noon to 9 p.m. and it's all free, thanks to sponsorship by G&F Financial Group.

The cannery is located at 12138 Fourth Ave. in Steveston. Free parking is available.
