Westwind elementary's Kate Ward will be heading to Canada's capital next week for an unexpected vacation.

The 13-year-old's history project was selected from among more than 250,000 entries in 1,000 communities.

She'll be joining 100 National Fair delegates, including other Lower Mainland representatives, at the 15th annual National Historica Fair in Ottawa from July 7 to 13.

The week-long trip will include learning and adventure, and a public display of their history projects at the Canada Museum of Civilization on July 9.

Ward's project is entitled Banished to Safety: England's War Children Evacuees and is about the evacuation of children from London to Canada during World War II. It was chosen as the Richmond Delta representative to go to the national fair.
