This September, Richmond will become one of three communities with a new junior kindergarten.

Natacha Beim, founder of Core Education & Fine Arts, said a privately-run education centre is opening, and will be designed to stimulate and nurture children's natural areas of interest before they enter the public school system.

Located on No. 4 Road, just north of Steveston Highway, the new school will feature specially trained teachers, large, state-of-the-art classrooms, an art room, a playground, a private chef and a cinema.

Two other new kindergartens will be opening in Vancouver and White Rock, bringing to eight the total number of such facilities in the Lower Mainland.

Beim is an advocate for universal junior kindergarten and says she'll continue to offer it privately until the provincial government invests in a standardized program.
