Re: Some unanswered questions (NewsLeader, Oct. 23)
To indulge Murrary Martin and his union-allied “Public Power” group: Our spokespersons are volunteers. They have no financial interest in the power industry.
They do not receive compensation for being spokespersons.
Electricity is fundamental to our entire way of life in the modern world—a world facing the extreme challenges brought on by rapid climate change. Everyone has a stake in ensuring that our electricity supply is secure and that it comes from the cleanest, most cost-effective, renewable sources possible.
As we’ve indicated in other letters, our group does not oppose BC Hydro or its central role in B.C.’s energy sector. We support strategic, well-considered partnerships between BC Hydro and the private sector which allow the inherent strengths of each to be maximized for the benefit of all—especially for BC Hydro ratepayers.
The mainstream media—everyone from CKNW’s Bill Good to prominent, well-informed journalists like Tom Fletcher and Michael Smyth—have openly scoffed at, and even ridiculed, the misinformation and absurd claims made against green energy projects by people like Murray Martin.
As for The Tyee website: We do not control what The Tyee website prints nor do we particularly care what they choose to print.
Our group is confident that people of reasonable mind will be able to sift fact from fiction and relevant information from irrelevancies.
