There seems to be a movement afoot from those who hold sway over the media to do anything and everything to erase, delete or do away with what distinguishes Canadian culture from what is found south of the border.
Witness the cuts to CBC funding and programming.
At the moment the Queen and the Royal Family seem to be the target. It is hard to resist the pull from the south. I am not anti-American, but I am pro-Canada and there is much that is different about Canadian values. Our link with the monarchy represents a distinct choice made by Canada to maintain this connection with the British parliamentary system while our neighbours to the south in 1776 chose independence and a republic.
The British system has served us well and is worth maintaining and perfecting.
