LETTER: Red Sands parking restrictions ‘irrational’
Sometimes I am embarrassed for Nelson. Last week on Bealby Point Road a number of people were given parking tickets for parking their vehicles in the area near the footpath to Red Sands Beach. Most of the vehicles belonged to visitors to Nelson.
There are signs prohibiting parking along most of the road but these signs also cover a widening in the road which to any normal person looks like a parking area and is used as such. Parking there poses no problem to traffic and in any other place in Nelson would be considered normal.
It astounds me how petty and small-minded the authorities can be in our town and how this must make an impression on our visitors, whom, we are told, are welcome here and partially support our economy. Nelson only has two beaches and both are very popular with locals and visitors alike, so why would we make things difficult and annoying for people who merely want to enjoy an afternoon at Red Sands?
