Rally for water

To the Editor,

Water. Clean water. What would our lives be like without water? Our California neighbour to the south is in the midst of a serious drought and facing the reality of life with limited water. Could it happen to us? Yes. In fact, not far from home, the Beaver Creek community faced a serious "water contamination" problem for many years due to sleep slope logging. Our China Creek Watershed needs protections and a strong message needs to be sent to local officials to stop the logging in our watershed. A rally has been planned for Thursday, Aug. 7 in front of Port Alberni City Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Speakers from organizations such as the Watershed Alliance are expected to attend. We urge citizens to fight to keep water in the public domain, like the Vancouver and Victoria watersheds.
