B.C. Summer Games were spectacular
To the Editor,
Re: Nanaimo puts on golden Games, July 22.
This past weekend in Nanaimo was nothing short of remarkable. Look at what over 3,400 volunteers did over the past 18 months to showcase your city to the province. The Nanaimo 2014 Summer Games are now over and the 3,181 participants are back at home showing off their medals, boasting about personal bests, and savouring the fond memories created by the volunteers.
With the leadership pair of Jeff Lott and Bruce Hunter steering a remarkable board of directors and staff, the Nanaimo Games highlighted how the greater community can benefit from the selflessness of hundreds of volunteers.
Nanaimo has showed yet again that it is a community with great pride and confidence, as this version of the B.C. Games built on past Games hosting experiences as well as your ongoing community events like the bathtub weekend, dragon boat festival and the Maple Sugar Festival. Those events build capacity in leadership, while showcasing your city and its amenities.
Well done, and on behalf of the board of directors and staff of the B.C. Games Society, congratulations Nanaimo for a job very well done.

To the Editor,
These B.C. Summer Games provided the best examples of sportsmanship, coaching, organization, respect, enthusiasm, athleticism and entertainment I think I have ever seen at any sporting event. Many of the plays were as spectacular as some I have seen on highlight films of professional athletes. Watching the girls’ softball events provided all the things you hope to see when you attend a sporting event but never expect to find them all at one game. The coaches, managers, organizers, volunteers and especially the players all deserve our congratulations and thanks.
