PENINSULA LETTERS: Gateway or an exit?

Re: VAA Gateway to Sidney, PNR July 16, 2014.

I don’t know if anyone could or will take credit for calling the highway-airport development rezoning plan a ‘gateway’ project.

How could this ever be a gateway site? It is on the other side of the highway and past the entrance to Sidney.

If anything it should be labeled as an ‘exit’ site and maybe we could use this exit as an entrance back into Sidney where a gateway sign could be placed across from the Travelodge, letting people know that they have arrived.

Furthermore, the proposed uses for this site do nothing to compliment Sidney and in fact everything on the list suggests competition to existing businesses. Who benefits?

I think someone fell in love with the gateway name and decided to use it for the airport project.

However if this could be true, then maybe the user of this idea could move the gateway thought to create entrances to the town.
