Rotary flags will continue to fly

Many Oak Bay residents will be familiar with the Canadian flags flying in the yards of our community on past holiday weekends.

These flags are part of a fundraising project of the Rotary Club of Oak Bay – funds that go to local community projects.

Nearly 200 flags were placed for Canada Day. However, what few residents know is that each holiday a few flags go missing. Unfortunately, over the Canada Day weekend, six flags were taken from a single block, which is quite distressing both to us as Rotarians and to the residents themselves.

Several of the poles were recovered but the stolen and now damaged flags had been ripped off of them. I want to reassure Oak Bay residents that this will not deter us from continuing and expanding our Canada Flag project, as we believe that it enhances a sense of community among the residents of Oak Bay.

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Oak Bay I wish to thank all those who have supported and continue to support our work.

Dr. Jim Force, President

Rotary Club of Oak Bay
