PENINSULA LETTERS: Pipeline helps us all

Re: Voters will remember pipeline approval, PNR June 27.

Your correspondent ignores the Harper government’s approval of the National Energy Board’s recommendations concerning the Northern Gateway project is conditional on the proponents meeting 209 requirements.

It is the logical next step in a defined process applicable to all such projects. It would be irresponsible for Cabinet to have ignored the outcome of these long and expensive deliberations.

As for the contention the government is putting the interests of the few over the majority, it is important to remember that for the sake of Canada’s economic and social health we need to diversify the markets for our landlocked energy resources.  Bottle up Alberta oil and you dry up the transfer payments to provinces to finance health, education and other programs for us all.
