Class composition far outranks increased wages and benefits
Editor: I have a couple of thoughts on Nicola Gorseth’s well-written piece “Class composition does matter,” (The Times, June 19).
First, I find it a bit disturbing that a seven-year-old is wondering why the premier hates teachers. It sounds like she’s only hearing a very biased part of the story from her teacher mother.
My other thought is this. I think if you were to poll those of us classed as non-teachers and taxpayers, we would be in agreement that class composition is the number one problem in our schools and needs to be addressed.
I just don’t understand how striking for more wages and increased benefits is going to solve the problem. This is not about the kids. Stop pretending that is.
