Letters

Student opinion

I would like to address this letter to anyone and everyone who has been featured in the newspaper articles and sent in letters regarding the B.C. teachers’ strike.

I am a Grade 8 student at Qualicum Beach Middle School. I, like every other public school student in B.C., have been affected directly by the strike. I am choosing not to speak my opinion on the strike in this letter, because I have seen what happens to other students when they have.

There have been multiple letters written to The NEWS in response to the comments of Robert Filmer and the letter written by Ginny Lefeaux. Both students have different opinions, and it seems like some of the people of Oceanside have decided it is their place to respond to both of them in negative ways.

I would like to remind you all that everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether you agree with it or not. When the students who are being directly affected due to the strike express their opinions, it is not your place to start arguing with them and to shove your opinion down their throats, trying to convince them that they are wrong and misguided, and that you are right. Instead of arguing with the students of B.C., support them.

After all, it’s all about the kids.
