Letters: Effluent could harm fishing

I was most disappointed to learn that the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources Operations has received an application by Landus Development Group Inc. for a Licence-Utility at Possession Point, just outside Sooke Harbour. Apparently it is for a 200 metre utility/sewage/effluent outfall into Juan de Fuca Strait. The level of proposed treatment primary, secondary or tertiary is not clear.

Possession Point and the area around  Secretary Island are the best fishing spots in the Sooke area. Moreover, Sooke Flats and Sooke Harbour are both excellent crabbing areas.

Just as CRD is moving towards building a government-approved treatment system for Greater Victoria, it is unbelievable that Sooke would entertain the idea that a private developer should be allowed to discharge sewage into Sooke’s waters.
