Canada not green
The Canadian government has been downgraded once again by an international study by the Bertlesmann Foundation of Germany.
Canada slipped to 20th of 41 countries generally and 38th out of 41 countries in terms of safeguarding the environment.
The main culprit: The Conservative government, they say, has weakened environmental laws, streamlined energy projects and has disregarded “evidence-based decision making.”
In another analysis, by the Carbon Tracker Initiative, $1 trillion in investor money has been stranded by being invested worldwide in fossil fuel projects that will never show a profit in a carbon constrained world. Among these projects is the Alberta tar sands, much vaunted and promoted by Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government. This is one of the dirtiest fossil fuel projects in the world along with fracking and coal burning.
The objection to “evidence based decision making,” obviously refers to Harper basing his decisions on his own ideology as opposed to decisions based on hard evidence such as the unprecedented concurrence of scientific knowledge regarding climate change.
