Letter: Every woman beautiful, every man handsome

To the editor:

It is with profound gratitude that I write this letter.

On the evening of Feb. 18 I experienced an illness that included fainting spells, strong nausea and profuse vomiting. I was taken by ambulance to emergency at Kelowna General Hospital.

I was then rushed to the trauma unit. There a bevy of nurses and doctors took the greatest care of me. I remained there for 13 hours.

When I became lucid I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful the ladies were and how handsome the men. As I watched them diligently perform their duties, I couldn’t help but think of the TV show Grey’s Anatomy. I found it amusing to feel like I was experiencing My Own Grey’s Anatomy.

By 3 a.m. of the 19th I was feeling so much better. I couldn’t sleep so two of the nurses would come and check on me regularly. During these times we talked about life and other things. It was so soothing.

By 9 a.m. it was decided that I would have to stay another 24 hours and be placed on a heart monitor. I was sent to the cardio ward.

Again I was greeted with a beautiful and very caring staff. I so appreciated the private room with TV. By this time I needed to de-stress big time. I felt like I was at a spa. The next 24 hours was spent talking and laughing with staff. Like when I went for my ultrasound and asked the technician if it was her first time. It was good to laugh again.

By noon of the 20th I received a diagnosis and was released. I work daily on getting healthier so as not to ever go through this illness again.

In closing I want to thank the staff that made me feel like I was the only patient they had. Thank you for choosing to spend your career saving the lives of others. Thank you for your kindness. You will never be forgotten. May God bless you and continue to watch over you.

Patricia Wilson-Waldron,

Kelowna
