Keep affordable housing in new growth

I read with interest the NewsLeader’s Brentwood Pulse and Edmonds Pulse, about the recent wave of development that is occurring in those two neighbourhoods. I’m pleased to see city council and developers working hard to ensure there remains a wide variety of housing stock to be created under the new design plans.

Burnaby’s population is expected to grow rapidly over the next few decades, and it is important to ensure housing is available for the new families that want to move into the best-run city in Canada.

More important, though, is to ensure the people who want to live here and work in Burnaby can afford it. With recent moves by Ottawa to end their contracts with co-op housing projects across the city and increasing housing prices in general, there needs to be movement towards creating additional affordable housing stock.
