Gas Works key to 12th Street revitalization

Re: Lower 12th set to transform

What came first, the developments or the park?

A decade has now passed since the Lower 12th Street plan was created.

We now know the answer to this question: parks come first. To break the stalemate the city must build the Gas Works Park.

Without such an amenity developers won't risk being the first to build.

With Westminster Pier Park and Anvil Centre, Mayor Wayne Wright and city council have shown themselves to be city builders. After sitting vacant for 20 years, the Larco site will now move forward (knock on wood).

Without a doubt, this positive development on our waterfront wouldn't be happening if the city didn't move first. Strategic investments in key amenities can pay immense dividends.

If we, as a community, want to see anything happen around Lower 12th Street the time to act is now.

Let's not waste another decade.
