Copy the EU on recycling
What a relief to hear that there are at last improvements coming in the way we (non) recycle glass.
It really is high time that we learned something from countries that have been down this road decades ago. Take Switzerland, a tiny landlocked truly democratic country with four languages and without any natural resources, consistently with a basically right wing government, that has not had a national debt for generations!
Why? One simple word: Education. Repeat, education.
Domestic rubbish has to be in a standard container and placed on a marked spot outside ones’ home. Plastic, paper and metal must go into designated containers, as must clear glass that must also be separated from coloured glass.
Failure to conform to these rules quickly results in hefty fines, but these are now rare as everyone is on board. There are similar systems in most western EU countries, some of whom also have a free collection of unwanted furniture and other large items, once a year.
