There are many good people in this world

Listening, watching or reading the news in 2014 at times leaves one wondering what is wrong with our world as too often we hear about the negative nature of people.

I beg to differ with this view, as on the night of Jan. 30 my faith in what is good in this world was once again reinforced. I live in Victoria and was in the Lower Mainland attending a conference. Unfortunately, shortly after I arrived at my destination I noticed that my wallet was missing. Anyone who has experienced this situation can relate to how distressing an event of this nature can be.

As I traced back my steps I realized that I lost my wallet on the 410 bus in Richmond. Approximately 90 minutes after I dropped my wallet I received a phone call from the New Westminster Police Department informing me that a very kind woman found my wallet and personally dropped it off at the downtown detachment.

The bus I was riding switched numbers in Steveson and then journeyed on to New Westminster. The phone call, needless to say, removed a tremendous amount of anxiety from my mind as I was just about to start calling my credit card company and bank to cancel my cards and cheque payments.

I owe a debt of gratitude to the kind person who person who found my wallet and had it returned to me in a very timely manner. Thank you is simply not enough as this woman's thoughtfulness is something I will never forget. I would also like to acknowledge all the excellent citizens of this province who step forward and do the right thing on a daily basis.

The good in our world is so much stronger than the bad!
