Evans was right about the ALR
The recent article in the Jan. 29 edition of the Peninsula News Review covering Corky Evans’ concerns about the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) and our valuable British Columbia agricultural base is very accurate.
Any weakening of the ALR is a threat to our need to produce as much food here in B.C. as is possible.
Mr. Evans is also correct in expressing the need to ensure our farmers receive a sufficient income from their farms to support themselves and their families. A loss of any of our farm base will soon lead to higher prices, as competition for meat, fruit and vegetables from our homegrown produce decreases.
All that will remain, will mostly be inferior produce and a loss of many valuable jobs in our agricultural sector.
