‘Thick or thin, we are in’, say Bulldogs

To the Editor,

It was great to see the turnout to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs’ last home game before Christmas. And it was even better to see and hear of the tonne and a half of non-perishable food donated by the community.

Unofficially, our local fans may have exceeded all the other B.C. Hockey League teams in the quantity and quality of food donated to the Bread of Life.

Despite a rollercoaster performance where our boys can amaze or dismay us on any given night, the effort on and off the ice by this community-owned team is a testament to the tenacity of our community. Thick or thin, we are in.

So paraphrasing what a New York Giants player said in their less than stellar NFL season: “every time you put on the uniform and equipment and go out there, you represent the people that played before you. You represent the people who are going to play after you. You represent the community that has always supported you. So you need to understand that this organization is built around pride and character—and that’s what you want to exude no matter what the scoreboard is, no matter what the record”.

Bob Cole,

Port Alberni
