PM dishonours vets
In 1942, what we call our democracy was in bad shape.
From Scandinavia to Madrid, Hitler had turned Europe into a seemingly impregnable fortress. The Japanese imperial powers had turned the Pacific Ocean into their private lake.
Young Canadians signed up to fight, some to escape unemployment but most did so because it was the right thing to do. They had no difficulty in recognizing evil when they saw it.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper, as he occupies himself nickel-and-diming our vets, does not seem to grasp that the comfortable and prosperous life he has led is owed, in some large measure, to our vets’ sacrifices.
It’s not too late to do the right thing, Mr. Prime Minister.
