Why I stood outside John Duncan’s office to stop FIPA
I stood outside John Duncan’s office in Courtenay (pictured above) to protest the proposed Canada-China Foreign Investment & Protection Agreement.
Prime Minister Harper wants to ratify the secretive and extreme trade deal, locking in you, me, and our children for 31 years. Thirty-one years? This world is changing week by week, and I would not sign a 31-year contract with my own brother.
In the coming years, Canadians will need to pass new common sense laws to protect our environment, our jobs, and our communities. Foreign corporations would be able to sue us for huge amounts of money if they claim that those new laws limit their expected profits. Those lawsuits would be decided by secret tribunals outside of Canada’s court system.
Will we betray our own children?
Say NO to FIPA.
