The Earth is warming — or not
Re: Justin D. Whitehead's letter (Record, Sept. 30), entitled “Do you really want Earth to be choked by CO2 like Venus?”
Over the past several years, the global warming debate has changed from “global warming” to “climate change.”
I ask when has the climate not changed? If the Earth is warming, why not stick to global warming? Is it possible that the earth isn't warming anymore?
Data has surfaced that jeopardizes the legitimacy of the global warming activists' standpoint. A March 2013 article on Forbes.com quotes the NOAA's (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) data that, “atmospheric carbon dioxide levels rose 10 per cent between 1995 and 2012,” but also that “[g]lobal temperatures are essentially the same today as they were in 1995.”
A May 2013 article posted by the Met Office also found that the earlier months of the year were the coldest seen in over 50 years. If global temperatures are staying the same or decreasing, and CO2 has a warming effect on the planet, then the only practical conclusion is that the Earth itself must be cooling.
