Oak Bay's OCP survey will help shape our future
The Official Community Plan survey is not misleading, as a very small, yet vocal group in Oak Bay asserts.
Instead it poses the questions clearly so that the majority of respondents can let their views be known and thus help our elected council to shape the future direction for Oak Bay.
This is a lovely community and, by the way friends and neighbours, it is already changing. The primary issue for residents is simple: is it heading in the direction we want for our children and future residents, or has the train left the station without us? The survey seeks your views.
Left without clear direction Oak Bay will look like every other community that has expensive real estate across Canada and elsewhere.
Old homes will be torn down and replaced by bigger new homes owned and occupied by owners who live elsewhere for part of the year. The tax base erodes over time and community infrastructure becomes hard to afford.
Personally, I want to hear the laughter of children because young families can afford to live here.
I want to see our older residents stay in the community in affordable and accessible housing. I want Oak Bay to retain its charm and unique characteristics and to be a vibrant, diverse, safe and healthy place to live for years to come.
