Past presidents have role to play in Hyack
Hyack is not a “chummy” club by any stretch of the imagination.
And the past presidents do indeed have a role to play.
They are responsible for hosting the Hyack International Parade weekend for our out-of-town guests. They organize the hotels, arrange for the formal dinner on Friday night where all the heads of out-of-town parades are recognized.
They arrange for a post-parade luncheon Saturday and a rose planting by the Portland Rosarians at city hall. They organize a boat trip with salmon dinner on Saturday night and then a farewell breakfast on Sunday morning. On top of that, we have a hospitality room all weekend where our volunteers make food for our guests. It makes for a very hectic weekend and some of us are not getting any younger.
We also attend several hospitality meetings throughout the year and as soon as one year is finished, we start right away on next year’s hospitality. This model works very well and keeps the continuity of the hospitality weekend going.
I should also point out, the only people who get their way paid for any Hyack out-of-town trips or functions are the ambassadors and chaperones, and the president and his spouse, and any city councillor who attends.
Everyone else pays their own way and always have done. So we don’t travel on the taxpayers dime.
You have another fact wrong.
The executive director takes his direction from the president, not the other way
round. Next time you wish to sit down and trash Hyack, it would be great if
you checked your facts first.
