Thanks for help with 'small but important trip' to Cambodia
I was shown the piece you wrote (Record editorial, Sept. 12) about the thank you letter from Linda and Tim Folkman.
I was so impressed you shared your feelings this way, and I wanted you to know just how much they appreciated your acknowledgement!
I was at their home for a pre-planning meeting as the trip is coming up quickly! Last year I was blessed to have gone on the first trip to the village and work with the children of the youth centre Living Hope raised funds to build.
Having not travelled outside of North America before, it was quite the experience!
With the support of our community, we will continue to reach out to these amazing people, who've had such sadness and horror affect their lives.
One of the questions posed by one of the women we met was, "Why did you come all this way?" The answer was, to share the love of Christ, and to help out materially in any way we could. Mostly they just wanted to get to know us as people, to share in the human experience. And they were quite shocked to find out that those of us on the trip had less-than-perfect lives, and had suffered hardships of our own.
I could go on and on ... but mostly I am thanking you and your paper for your part in this small but important trip.
Editor's note: Lori Root refers to work done in Cambodia by members of the Living Hope Christian Fellowship.
