Proud to call 223rd Street ‘our street’
Editor, The News:
Seems nearly every time I read the newspaper it is full of negative happenings.
The neighborhood where I live has a lot of challenges and has quite a bad reputation sometimes, as far as neighborhoods go.
The central part of Maple Ridge has some problems, this is true..
But today I was reminded that there are really great people here and it only takes a small act of kindness to reassure me of this.
I was selling a bicycle on Craigslist and was waiting in the lobby of our apartment building for that man who called me to have a look at my bike.
I noticed on the bulletin board a letter written in very shaky handwriting that said that one of the people who lives here was looking for his cane and if anyone had found it to please contact him.
Then I was very happy to see under that letter was posted another letter, which was a thank-you letter from the same man, saying thanks to the anonymous person who hung his cane on his doorknob of his apartment.
I know it’s just a small thing, but I’m sure it made his day, and seeing the letters made my day, too.
While our neighborhood has its challenges to overcome, I think overwhelmingly the people in this area are great and I am very proud to call 223rd Street my street.
Or should I say, our street.
