‘My cat for the Senate’
Re. “Who should fill B.C.’s vacant seat in the Senate?” (Face to Face, The Tri-City News, Aug. 23).
I’d like to take this opportunity to nominate my cat, Tugger, for the Senate of Canada.
Now, don’t get me wrong, we love Tugger dearly but, affection notwithstanding, we feel he has all the right stuff for the Senate.
When he is not sleeping — which is most of the day — he’s off in a dark corner making mischief.
When company comes, he dismisses them with a snort, thus depriving them of his legendary cuteness.
But when the food bowl hits the floor, he’s there like a shot, after which he charms and purrs his way into more nibbles.
When there is useful service to perform, like helping to locate a flying bug in the house, he is nowhere to be found.
In sum, Tugger has all it takes to make a Senator: He’s lazy, self-seeking, insatiable and is ever ready to flash some purely cosmetic justification for his continuing presence.
Go for it, Tug! We’ll miss you but we’re with you all the way!
