City should consider bike only lights
Re: “Cyclists need to pay attention,” Letters, Aug. 14.
Sharon Doucelin makes some obvious, but good points in her letter.
Both cyclists and motorists can be inattentive and violate the rules of the road on occasion. This inattention can lead to collisions which nobody wants.
I think that maybe the city can do its share too.
Perhaps the city can re-position roadway stop lines further back along the bikeway and install bike-only lights at these intersections (just like the city installed for pedestrians at No. 1 Road and Moncton).
That way, people don’t have to get off of their bikes every kilometre (could you imagine the outcry if motorists had to get out of their cars at each intersection?), and collisions would be less likely to occur.
