Skugaid evokes fond memories of the past
Re: Skugaid skipper determined to stay (NewsLeader, March 13)
What is so wrong with having a boat (in this case the Chief Skugaid) tied up on the New West waterfront? To me it seems a logical place for a boat to be—much better than having a number of cars parked near the river.
When I first arrived on the West Coast, many years ago, seeing the ocean was a great delight and going up to Alert Bay was something else again. Meeting the people, seeing the small hospital I would be nursing at, and getting to sail on a boat very much like the Skugaid has given me wonderful memories to savour and cherish.
Seeing the Skugaid, as I often do, reminds me of past days. These memories mean much more to me than seeing a vast number of cars sitting idle, doing boom-all for the people around them or for the scenery.
Here's a toast to the Skugaid and all who have sailed in her!
