Jumbo appointments questionable
Let me get this straight – the provincial government created the Jumbo Glacier Mountain Resort Municipality; and the members of the Regional District of East Kootenay won`t let the new municipality`s directors play.
I don`t think many people are paying attention to this. After all, it was on Page 19 of the Trail Times on Wednesday: No money for Jumbo representatives.
So how does the government get off creating a municipality, which even has an appointed mayor and council? No election. Appointed.
What this tells me is: the government can create a municipality out of thin air, if it so chooses; and it can appoint a mayor and council without an election.
Apart from Christie Clark being premier (for how many years?) without an actual election is one thing, but an appointed mayor and council? Wouldn’t that be a dictatorship?
All this would matter, I suppose, if the new municipality had any residents. It doesn’t. None. Nada.
I am shaking my head here.
What this really sounds like is big business pulling the government’s strings – or vice versa.
The three people on council could certainly vote for and pass anything the resort wants: bulldoze a watershed, clear-cut a whole mountain; or bypass rules and regulations regarding the building of condos. After all, who could protest?
On another note, I don’t like the way the Liberals are trashing Adrian Dix for something he did – and owned up to – years ago.
Are we all to be judged on the poor choices we made in high school, as young adults, as employees on our first job, or (heaven forbid), the disastrous choice that resulted in our first (dysfunctional) marriage?
What we may have done 20, 30 or 40 years ago, we may never think of doing today. People grow up. They mature. They recognize the error of their ways and correct them.
Wasn’t Paul one of Christ’s worst opponents? And yet as he grew older and saw the light (literally), he changed his ways and wrote a good many books of the Bible.
Wasn’t one of Christ’s apostles a murderer?
The Liberals really shouldn’t be throwing stones at glass houses.
Before criticizing, they should “pull the log out of their own eyes” or certainly remember that if you dig a grave, you best dig two holes.
