Marina deal eases tax burden
To the Editor,
Re: Battle for the Boat Basin, Jan. 26.
I find it a sad state of affairs when an entrepreneur is willing to tackle a money-losing proposition to improve and turn around the downtown boat basin and gets nothing but grief.
Especially when it will cost zero tax dollars.
I am tired of seeing commercial fishing boats tied up and occupying dock space for 300-plus days a year at taxpayer expense. This practice has to end.
I have an idea for the ‘coalition’ of user groups. It should build its own facility down the beach on First Nation waterfront property.
Then it can get all it wants for free and let business blossom without burdening the rest of us with their special interests.
You don’t hear the Nanaimo Yacht Club whining about rising costs.
