$10k grant for new home buyers a 'sneaky' policy
I'm sure that those 'first time buyers' out there looking to buy a new home will be all excited that our provincial government is offering you some of my tax money to help you to do that.
You are being offered $10,000 'tax free' towards the cost of a new home that qualifies for the grant. Of course all that happens is the developer gets to charge you $10,000 more instead of reducing the price by that same amount and I think we can guess that these said developers are supporters of the provincial Liberals. In short; my tax dollars go to the government, the government gives it to you and you obligingly give it to the developer . . . On the other hand, maybe it's all to do with the HST on new homes ending when B.C. returns to GST/PST on April 1 and the government loses its 7 per cent. Either way it's pretty sneaky.
