Thank you to kind neighbours
I’m writing to thank our neighbours in the Westminster Towers on Agnes Street for their kindness and generosity.
During the night of Dec. 27, my husband, 18-month-old son and I awoke to the sound of the fire alarm. As it became apparent that this was not a false alarm, we rushed out of our condo building and onto the street with only our jackets and a blanket for my son. We’d been standing outside for no more than half an hour before someone came by from the building across the street to say they had opened their amenity room so we could have somewhere comfy and warm to sit. Over the next four hours, these wonderful neighbours kept us company, made sure we had access to bathrooms, and brought us food, water, coffee and tea from their own homes. One lady even gave all the kids Christmas chocolates. And all this between 3 and 7 a.m. in the morning!
Living in a bigger city with everything we need so easily accessed, it can be quickly forgotten how much we rely on our community. I was so touched that our neighbours (and strangers) opened up their homes to us on a night when we very much needed it. What could have been a difficult evening will now be a special memory for our family. Thank you!
