Langley RCMP officers were professional, courteous

Editor: There is a lot of bad press about the RCMP these days, and I thought it important to take the time to give feedback on the role the RCMP played in the recent Langley homicide incident on Dec. 31.

The Langley team was extremely impressive in the way that they handled this incident with dignity and respect. On an evening when, I am sure, they would rather be attending New Year’s celebrations, they kept a lonely vigil over the premises and the remains of the individual involved.

They were sentinels in the dark hours of the night, ensuring the site or individual would not be compromised in any way.  Their communication with everyone in the neighbourhood was professional and respectful, and their presence made us feel safe in the midst of such a tragedy.

There is a small measure of comfort in knowing that one’s final remains are respectfully treated and handled with dignity, because we all have lived once, and that matters to someone.

I commend all members of this team in the care and handling of this situation, and would like to recognize the excellence of their service to the community.

Cathy (last name withheld by request),

Willoughby
