City hall holiday closure not right

Editor:

It is really not right for the city hall to be closed to the public from Dec. 24 through Jan. 1. A whole week of no service. I, together with many citizens, have visited twice in the past week. This is really how our tax money gets wasted.

There should be at least half or one-third the staff to handle day-to-day operations, giving service to the public. I was a civil servant in my home country (Hong Kong). We have half the staff on duty in major holidays because we understand the public has a right to obtain our services too. That’s why we are called civil servants. A good balance has to be struck.
