Seeing both sides of: settling teachers’ dispute now
The case for
There’s a little more than two weeks left before classes are supposed to resume.
Surely, there are some solutions pending to get a deal done before the Labour Day weekend. Some work is needed to accomplish this now for the benefit of the kids.
Otherwise, there’s no telling how long this is going to take and we’re back in the same situation as in June.
The case against
The bargaining process has to play itself out and it doesn’t matter how long it takes.
Sure, kids will be affected but the teachers need to dig in their heels on their contentious issue of class size as well as receiving monetary improvements.
Legislating the teachers back to work, if it comes to that, will not be a good move.
